ESCR Testing for Industrial Drums

Environmental stress crack resistance predicts how a drum survives years of contact with surfactants, oils and cleaning agents under constant load. Laboratories compress that decade into hours with full notch creep tests and bent-strip methods on pressed plaques or bottle walls.
BM1052 is specified with ESCR above 1200 hours in bent-strip testing, a figure drum makers cross-check on their own parts because wall orientation and part geometry shift the result. Higher numbers translate directly into fewer field splits on chemical duty.
When comparing grades, always match test method and notch geometry first. A 400-hour result on one method can outperform a 1200-hour result on another, which is why drum specification sheets state the method next to the number.
